The Story
With her country on the brink of revolution, CAMILA dares to escape a dangerous home life and the imminent violence of a growing uprising with her twelve-year-old daughter in tow. The journey is over before it begins when their guides are murdered by the local military. Camila and her daughter, MARIA ELENA, return home. Camila’s husband, IGNACIO, is a farm foreman working with the local military’s execution squad. Desperate to escape, Camila seeks help from ALMA, a trusted friend with ties to the female-led resistance. Alma tells her it has become too dangerous and she will have to wait if she wants to leave with the girl. Camila discovers her husband agreed to have their daughter go work for SEÑOR MENDOZA, the wealthy landowner turned politician controlling the local military. It is an open secret that Maria Elena is the illegitimate child of Señor Mendoza – the child of rape from when Camila worked for him as a young girl. Camila sees history repeating but is powerless against Mendoza and his family. She leaves to join the female resistance who promise to help rescue her daughter. When the rebels change their plans, Camila risks the entire operation and her life to get her daughter back. Camila returns to find Maria Elena has already escaped. Violence erupts between the local military and the rebels who have been compromised by Camila’s actions. Alma and their friends are murdered. Outnumbered, mother and daughter are trapped at home – the most dangerous place they could be. They realize there is no escape unless they fight together.
